History of the
Lake Worth Music Festival

This is a free event whose goals are to promote the musical arts, diversity, south Florida performers, and the City of Lake Worth.

The Lake Worth Rotary club started hosting and presenting a folk festival in the spring of 2001. For the first four years it charged admission, and was held on the grounds of the American Polish club on Lake Worth Road. The focus of the event was folk music, with a line up of performers from South Florida, and one outside act. At the time, it was held as a fund raising event. Over the years, it presented artists of various ethnicity. It also included story telling in its line-up.

After the 2005 event, the club decided to change the event from a fund raiser to a community service. The goals of the event are stated in the mission statement above. The club did several things to accomplish those goals. First, it formed a 501(c)(3) by the name of Lake Worth Rotary Charity, Inc. to organize and run the event. Second, it changed the name of the event to the Lake Worth Music Festival. Third, it changed the location of the event to the cultural plaza in down town Lake Worth. Fourth, it expanded the music presented to include Gospel and blues. Fifth, it expanded the diversity by including African-American performers. In order to fund the production, the event obtained sponsors from within the community.
